Welcome to Exford First Church of England School

Situated in the beautiful area of Exmoor, our friendly village school serves the families of the village and surrounding rural area. Our catchment area includes the villages of Exford, Simonsbath, Winsford, and Withypool. Although our school is small in size, we aim for excellence and joy in all we do. We strive to make everyone involved with our school feel part of a caring, lively and happy community. Learning is best when we are enthused, involved and feeling a sense of achievement.

Our aim is for every child

  • to feel valued for their individual personalities, attributes and talents;
  • to be understanding of others and confident in themselves;
  • to be encouraged and motivated to excel in all they do;
  • to be curious and enthusiastic in their learning;
  • to feel a sense of wonder about their world;
  • to gain vital skills to empower them in their future lives;
  • to feel secure and safe within our school, our community and our parish.

We believe that a close partnership between parents, children and the school staff will give a child the best foundation for a good education. We endeavour to create that partnership in many ways such as frequent shared Celebration assemblies, regular opportunities to share children’s work, informative newsletters, and most importantly, an open invitation to discuss how we can best support your child.

The level of personal care is excellent and has a very good impact on pupils’ personal development.’   Ofsted report 2007

Together, we, the staff, children, parents, governors and community, can provide the very best environment for the child’s first school years.  If you are a prospective parent, you are very welcome to come and visit us – we look forward to showing you our school.
