Exford village and parish has about 400 residents. It lies on the River Exe in the heart of Exmoor National Park in West Somerset. The area is well known for farming and country pursuits, and has a strong hunting and riding culture.

It is a picturesque village centred around the green with an excellent play area and has a general store, newsagent and Post Office, two traditional country hotels/inns, a restaurant, and guest houses.

The school is part of the Diocese of Bath & Wells and has strong links with St Mary Magdalene church which overlooks the village.

There has been a church on this site since before the Norman conquest, but the oldest part of the existing church is the tower which dates back to the mid-15th century.

Exmoor is one of 14 National Parks in the United Kingdom that are specially protected as our finest landscapes and an important part of our national heritage. It is protected for the conservation of its scenery, wildlife and cultural heritage and for the understanding and enjoyment which it can provide. The National Park straddles West Somerset and part of Devon. It covers 267 square miles (692 sq km) of varied countryside and is home to over 10,500 people.

By working together with local people Exmoor National Park Authority tries to ensure that Exmoor continues to be a lovely place to live, visit, work in and enjoy.

Such ‘special qualities’ include tranquillity, beauty, closeness to nature, unspoilt countryside, fresh air and outdoor recreation.

Exmoor was created as a National Park in 1954 because it is an extensive area of relatively wild and unspoiled countryside offering potential for open air recreation for a large number of people.

Such features include its wild red deer, Exmoor ponies and other rare species; local breeds of farm animals and crop varieties; high, wild and remote coastline; open moors and heaths; ancient oak woodland; beech hedgebanks; distinctive buildings and archaeological features.
